I serve as a Rabbinic Coordinator (RC) at OU Kosher, where one of my key responsibilities is onboarding new companies that apply for OU certification. This role allows me to work with a wide array of companies, helping them navigate their initial setup, production processes, needs, and finances.
In my role of onboarding new companies and reviewing kosher certification requests, I encounter a diverse range of applications, from roasted coffee to water bottling. Additionally, I work with companies operating large facilities where they pasteurize and blend various products. The complexity of these operations requires different skills, whether it’s financial acumen or a deep understanding of the complexity of production.
I’m currently the RC for several beverage companies and have learned a lot about beer and whiskey production through my work. Visiting these facilities, such as a beer brewery in New Jersey, has given me a unique perspective on the industry. It was particularly surprising to discover a winery within the same building as the brewery, highlighting the diversity of production processes.
Before coming to OU Kosher I studied at various esteemed yeshivas, including Yeshiva Ner Yisroel Rabbinical College, Mir Yeshiva, and BMG Yeshiva in Lakewood New Jersey. Throughout my studies, I’ve always had a keen interest in kosher, particularly focusing on the halachic (Jewish law) aspects of Yoreh De’ah (a section of Jewish law). I give a lecture every Sunday morning in my local community, which began with kosher concepts before expanding to other areas. I’m grateful to be working in a field I’m passionate about.
I make it a point to visit at least one plant each month. Recently, I visited a bakery in New Jersey, which was fascinating to observe the baking of cinnamon buns on the commercial level since it’s a favorite recipe made in my own home.
On a personal note, I’ve been married for 15 years and am blessed with a beautiful family with children ranging from newborn to fourteen years old. I am privileged to live in Lakewood, NJ which provides my family easy access to kosher establishments like groceries, schools, clothing stores and close connection with numerous prominent Rabbis.
