With over 27 years at OU Kosher, Rabbi Dov Schreier has played a pivotal role in overseeing kosher certification for restaurants, caterers, and institutional food service establishments. As a Rabbinic Coordinator (RC) in the Food Service Department, he ensures that kosher standards are upheld in a fast-moving industry where menus, ingredients, and supply chains can change rapidly. His work requires constant vigilance, adaptability, and strong communication with restaurant owners, chefs, and mashgichim (RFRs).
Each day presents new challenges, often beginning before sunrise with urgent inquiries and extending late into the night. Whether addressing last-minute ingredient substitutions, assisting a mashgiach with a complex halachic (Jewish law) question, or verifying new suppliers, Rabbi Schreier is deeply involved in ensuring that each establishment maintains the highest standards of kashrut. He prides himself on being accessible and responsive, often fielding calls at all hours to help resolve issues in real time.
One of the most rewarding aspects of his work is building relationships with food service professionals and witnessing their commitment to kosher observance. He recalls a restaurant owner who once told him, “I don’t always like the answers you give me, but I respect you because you always respond and explain.” That level of trust and communication is central to his approach. Rabbi Schreier grew up with a strong appreciation for the importance of kosher certification. He spent 12 years as a pulpit rabbi before transitioning to full-time kosher supervision. He and his wife are blessed with six children and two granddaughters.
For Rabbi Schreier, kosher supervision is more than just verifying ingredients and processes—it’s about education, service, and partnership. His dedication ensures that kosher establishments operate with integrity, making kosher dining more accessible and reliable for communities worldwide.
