Chocolate Syrup Cake

Ingredients

  • ½ cup pareve margarine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 (16 oz.) can chocolate syrup

    Icing:
  • ½ cup pareve margarine or butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ⅓ cup milk or nondairy substitute
  • ½ cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In the bowl of an electric mixer cream together the margarine and sugar; then add eggs one at a time and beat well after each addition.
  3. Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.
  4. Add the dry mixture to the creamed mixture and mix to combine. Then add the chocolate syrup and mix to combine.
  5. Pour the batter into a 9X13 pan and bake for 50 minutes. Do not over bake.
  6. Ice while hot.

    Icing:
  7. In a saucepan, combine the margarine, milk and sugar together and cook over a medium heat for two to three minutes until the milk is warm but not boiling.
  8. Add the chocolate chips and remove the pan from the heat. Beat the mixture until the chips are melted and the frosting is smooth.
  9. Pour the mixture over the warm cake. Let cool and serve.
