Since extinguishing the candle isn’t necessary for the food preparation, one may not extinguish it. However, if one needs to put it out (because of fear of damage or because of the need to preserve the candle for later use, etc.) one can place the candle in front of an open window where it is likely to be blown out by the wind (as long as the wind isn’t currently blowing) so as to cause it to be extinguished (see Shmiras Shabbos K’Hilchoso 13:18, n. 70).
