Back to Halacha Yomis

I have heard that one can break a kli to avoid the need for tevila. How does that work?

If a utensil which requires tevila becomes sufficiently “broken,” and a Jew then repairs it, that utensil is considered to have been “made” by a Jew and tevila is no longer required. Rav Belsky, zt”l explained that in order to qualify for this halacha, the utensil must be so “broken” that it (a) is no longer usable and (b) requires a skilled craftsperson to repair it (based on Mishnah, Keilim 26:1).
