Independent bottler of Single Malt Scotch Whisky – DS Tayman – launches first two expressions

Matured in hand-picked wine barrels – with OU certification

How many Kiddushim have you been to where people are heatedly discussing the issue of sherried whisky? DS Tayman has put an end to this problem, once and for all.

‘Creating a first time, single cask expression of Single Malt Scotch Whisky with specialist wine finishes and kosher certification was a challenge that called out to DS Tayman like the roar of the shofar. #shehekhiyanu’

Company History

Driven by a passion for great wine and fabulous whisky, DS Tayman’s vision is to offer something different and memorable to family, friends and fellow drinkers.

After travelling the length and breadth of Scotland and seeking out carefully matured casks from the most remote places, this passion has now become reality.

Having sourced specialist whiskies from choice distilleries, each cask of Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been hand-selected based on its unique appearance, aroma and flavour. The casks have then been individually paired with a special wine finish, giving each dram its own special character.

Making Kosher Whisky

Historically – before the introduction of these ‘wine finishes’, it was not clear what exactly had been aged in the casks previously and the authorities mostly ruled leniently when asked their opinion on the consumption of such aged liquor. They relied on the many elements of the unknown involved, primarily as generally one did not know if a specific whisky was matured in ex-sherry or ex-whisky casks or a combination of both.

But with special ‘wine finishes’ the situation has changed. The finishing casks are mentioned on the label and the likelihood is that they are bona fide fresh first-fill casks, so practically all the mitigating ‘unknown’ elements are gone! With such whiskies it is much more difficult to find reasons to lenient – so a more stringent approach is now more commonly taken. In this respect, carrying OU certification means that those following a kosher diet across the USA and further afield have full confidence in the kashrus status of DS Tayman expressions.

Launch Expressions

Building on this specialist craftsmanship and aligned to the distinctive flavours of each expression, DS Tayman has embodied this creativity and level of detail across its packaging too. Each distillery is represented by a different, bright colour that anchors its label and tube. The brand has also gone to great lengths to educate the consumer on the specialist whiskies created, with each label containing bespoke information on the whisky, including:

Catering to both smooth and peaty palates, the first releases of DS Tayman Single Malt Scotch Whisky are from the historic Caol Ila and Linkwood distilleries. Aged in Galil Mountain wine barrels, each expression has a unique maturation that has never been experienced before. Due to this unique maturation, each expression also benefits from being supervised kosher.
