  • 7-Eleven Nachos

    Brands:

    Products:
    Big Nachos + Free Chili and Cheese
    Issue:
    7-Eleven sells pre-packaged nachos in a clear plastic container. The label states “7-Eleven Big Nachos.” This product is certified OU-D. On the label, there appears the statement “Free Chili and Cheese.” When a customer purchases this product in 7-Eleven, he is entitled to open the lid and add chili and cheese from the counter. Consumers should be aware that the chili and cheese that are added are not OU certified.

    Issue:
    Product bears an unauthorized OU symbol and is not certified as Kosher by the Orthodox Union. Consumers spotting this product are requested to contact the Orthodox Union at 212-613-8148 or via email at herbstmanh@ou.org.

  • Round Tortilla Chips (14.5 oz)

    Round Tortilla Chips (14.5 oz)

    Issue:
    Shop Rite Round Tortilla Chips are kosher certified by the Orthodox Union. During manufacture, several cases of non-certified chips were erroneously packed into the Round Tortilla bags. The non-certified product can be identified by it’s triangular shape, distinctive orange color, and date code of 18OCT04 Y2E2. Affected product has been withdrawn from the marketplace.

    Products:

    (a refrigerated item sold at Starbucks).
    Issue:
    Product mistakenly bears an OU symbol. The dip is not certifed as kosher by the Orthodox Union. Future packaging will not bear the OU symbol.

  • Hellman’s Mayonnaise

    Issue:
    Some jars of OU certified mayonnaise have been distributed with a promotional insert containing either Knorr brand Vegetable soup, dip, and recipe mix or Lowry’s Taco Spices and Seasoning Mix. These inserts are not certified kosher by the Orthodox Union.

    Orthodox Union policy requires that the OU symbol be removed from kosher product containing non-kosher sample inserts. Corrective action is being taken.

    Issue:
    Wholly Healthy raw frozen pies are certified kosher by the Orthodox Union. These pies, when "baked off" by supermarket bakeries (amoungst them Whole Foods Markets in-store bakeries), have been incorrectly represented as OU certified. Our supervision of these pies is limited to the raw, unbaked pie. Run-A-Ton Group is withdrawing all OU labels from such bakeries.

    The ingredient statement correctly includes natural cheese flavor. The product is certified Pareve. The natural cheese flavor is made from a non-Dairy source.

    Issue:
    The ingredient statement erroneously states that the product contains dairy ingredients. Product does not contain dairy ingredients and is certified Pareve. Corrective action has been taken for future packaging.
