For the first time in the months to come, a weekend advertising insert with cents-off coupons will be “OU certified,” as it appears in major newspapers nationwide with the famed OU Kosher symbol displayed on every product. The inserts are a program of the Orthodox Union and Forum Publishing Group, a media company wholly owned by the Sun-Sentinel Company of South Florida, which in turn is owned by the Tribune Company of Chicago.
Just four months after introducing its six-part website, OU Direct, with the slogan “Managing your account has never been simpler,” the Orthodox Union Kosher Division announced today that the one thousandth user has logged into the system, which was designed to simplify financial contacts between the OU and the companies it certifies, as well as to facilitate the kosher certification process itself.
Orthodox Union’s Newly Certified Kosher Passover Products Offer an Increasing Variety of Choices to Consumers.
Combining centuries of Jewish law and state-of-the-art computer technology, the Orthodox Union Kosher Division announced today its newly designed website, http://www.oukosher.org, to offer easy and quick access to kosher information for consumers — Jewish and non-Jewish — and corporations worldwide. The OU is the world’s most recognized and trusted name in kosher supervision and a global leader in explaining the intricacies of keeping kosher to audiences on the web.
As another in an expanding series of education initiatives, the Orthodox Union’s Kosher Department has established its new Harry H. Beren Visit OU program, which makes it possible for Jewish students to visit the OU to learn the finer points of kosher law and observance. The program was inaugurated last week when 70 students from Seattle and Vancouver visited New York on a trip sponsored by the OU’s Jewish Student Union, which operates clubs for public school students across North America.
Quest International, the sixth largest flavors and fragrance manufacturer in the world, switched its kosher certification to the Orthodox Union, for production at its Owings Mills, MD facility. The change became effective February 1.
From Israel to China; Mexico to Spain; the Philippines and Indonesia to Brazil; Singapore to France; Australia/New Zealand to Germany; the United Kingdom to Colombia, and of course throughout the United States and Canada, an audience of thousands is tuning into the presentations of Kosher Tidbits, a fast-growing program that brings the intricacies of kosher law, taught by Orthodox Union experts, to discerning audiences on OU Radio, http://www.ouradio.org. In just a few months, more than 6,000 of these presentations have been downloaded onto listeners’ personal computers, ipods and other electronic devices.

That famous line, part of radio and television jargon for decades, is expected to be heard in the near future at the Orthodox Union, thanks to the recent appointment of Barry Mase as Media Sales Director. Mr. Mase explained that he has been charged with “developing branding relationships with companies and non-profit organizations that lead them to partner with the OU in sponsorship and advertising relationships across the broad spectrum of OU media outlets – including the vast OU online network of websites as well as the highly acclaimed Jewish Action magazine.” These sponsors, he said, would be searching for a “niche market of those interested in kosher, where sales are growing by leaps and bounds every year.”
